Martin endorses Ducey in treasurer's race

Three of the candidates running in the Republican primary for state treasurer are veteran lawmakers who say their legislative experience gives them the edge over the fourth candidate, former Cold Stone Creamery CEO Doug Ducey. The current treasurer, Dean Martin, was himself a lawmaker before he won the job of Arizona's chief financial officer.
But when it came time to endorse someone in the primary, Martin set legislative experience aside and endorsed Ducey.
"Arizona is still facing economic uncertainty, and we need someone who will not only continue our work, but has the experience to build on our success," Martin said in a statement Monday morning. "This person is Doug Ducey. He is the only candidate who has the business experience needed in the treasurer's office. It is Doug's business-oriented approach that Arizona needs in the treasurer's office, which is why I am proud to announce my endorsement of Doug Ducey for Arizona state treasurer."
Ducey faces state senators Barbara Leff and Thayer Verschoor and former lawmaker Ted Carpenterin the Aug. 24 primary, for which early voting has already begun.
